Culinary Carton, the delivery service that brings you schmick ingredients to cook meals at home in under 30 minutes has gone one step further and introduced Wine Carton, a subscription service, where once a month a selection of wines are delivered to your door.
It’s not a new idea – wines home-delivered – but the strength here lies in the team behind the wine selections who are also the team behind The Grosvenor Hotel in Melbourne’s St Kilda. Rabih Yanni, Paul Tyas and Michael Bevilacqua want to help educate people in feeling more confident about wine so have set this subscription service up providing quirky drops with comprehensive tasting notes delivered once a month.
“We understood ordering wine out or even enjoying it at home could be a daunting task for some people,” says Michael, “so the idea is to make learning about wine and drinking a little more fun, while also being educative.” They’ve included tasting notes on each wine that Michael describes as “not boring, they’re designed to be as interactive as possible so that the wines can be enjoyed with friends.”
Michael adds that the wines are chosen from premium producers around globe with a focus on wines which aren’t widely known. These are the types of wines from smaller vineyards (such as the BoomTown White that was sent to Turnip) or from lesser tried regions or countries – we also received an Argentinian Malbec. Michael says, “You also won’t find the wine we serve at your local Dan Murphy’s. Our only motto is we won’t send it if we wouldn’t drink it ourselves.”
