About Hilary

I’m a Melbourne-based freelance food and wine writer. I host and MC food-and-wine events, I moderate panel discussions and also work as a copywriter and manage social media and digital content for various clients.

For 15 years I worked front-of-house in restaurants in Australia and the UK before studying writing and editing at RMIT in Melbourne.

My work appears in The Australian, 9Kitchen, SBS Food OnlineWinestate magazineBroadsheetThe Weekly Review and Goodfood.

I was the Australian contributor of the book 1001 Restaurants You Must Experience Before You Die (Murdoch Books), released in October 2014 and co-authored the cookbook, The Atlantic at Home, with chef Donovan Cooke, published in November 2014. I edited the award-winning Temples of BBQ by Lance Rosen released in 2015 and in 2008, wrote Guide to Fish: Choosing and Cooking Sustainable Species.

Through my events business, Pep Events, I worked with events company OneNineFive and Gilmour’s in New Zealand to coordinate food tours of Melbourne for over 260 New Zealand hospitality operators, hosted corporate events for TPG Capital and Isle of Lime and have collaborated with wine tour group Wine Compass to bring high-end, personalised winery and restaurant tours through regional Victoria.

I manage social media accounts for Tasmanian-based Spring Bay Mussels and the social media and digital content for The Essential Ingredient, Prahran.
